GEORGIA POWER'S GREEN ENERGY PROGRAM

GSEA is now partnering with Georgia Power (GP) to co-market its Green Energy Program to GSEA Members.


ACTION ALERT:  GSEA is encouraging each member to purchase, at least, one (1) block of Green Energy with Solar.  One (1) block of 100 kWh will cost $5.00 per month and consist of 50% solar PV and 50% landfill gas.

    • CAPACITY:  The Public Service Commission (PSC) voted unanimously, 5-0, to increase the total amount purchased from 1.5 MW to 2.5 MW.
    • FUTURE MONTHLY ELECTRIC BILL INCREASES:  The PSC will soon be voting to approve an increase on monthly electric bills that for the average residential customer = $6.98/month.

    SOLAR INCENTIVES IN GEORGIA

    RESIDENTIAL:

    • Federal Incentives: 30% of total system cost as an Investment Tax Credit
    • State Incentive: 35% of total system cost as a State Tax Credit up to $10,500
    • Power Premium from Utility: Georgia Power and many of the EMCs that service Georgia now offer incentives including a rebate for installing solar as well as paying a premium for the power generated.

    COMMERCIAL:

    • Federal Incentives: 30% of total system cost as a Grant or Investment Tax Credit
    • State Incentive: 35% of total system cost as a Grant or State Tax Credit (this is subject to federal tax)
    • Power Premium from Utility: Georgia Power and several of the EMCs that service Georgia now offer incentives either as rebates or by paying a premium for the power generated.
    • Bonus Depreciation: Commercial customers can take advantage of accelerated depreciation for solar property.  In the first year, you can depreciate between 60 - 100% of the basis in the property.
