Our Mission

The Georgia Solar Energy Association, comprised of leading experts in solar manufacturing and installation, academia, finance, and the law is leading the effort in Georgia to promote the economic and environmental benefits of solar energy through education, advocacy and industry support.

Our members are working together to make Georgia a leader in innovation, creating jobs, and attracting investment.

Recent Accomplishments

  • Currently working with the Georgia Public Service Commission (PSC) on significant proposals to expand solar development in the state. (September- present 2012)
  • Led more than 75 participants at the annual Savannah Solar Summit on a “sneak peak” tour of the IKEA Savannah distribution center. At 1.5MW it is currently the largest solar installation in Georgia. (August 2012)
  • Hosted Solar Energy Industries Association President Rhone Resch as keynote speaker at 4th annual sold-out Southern Solar Summit in Atlanta. (June 2012)
  • Led initiative to clarify Georgia law on Power Purchase Agreements, increasing public awareness of the benefits of solar energy. (January-April 2012)

Our History

Established in 2002, the Georgia Solar Energy Association (GSEA) represents more than 300 individuals, businesses and organizations across the state of Georgia promoting the economic and environmental benefits of solar energy. As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, GSEA is governed by a board of directors and is the Georgia state chapter of the American Solar Energy Society (ASES).

Past Accomplishments Include:

  • Intervened for the first time in Georgia Power’s Integrated Resource Plan (IRP) resulting in significant improvements to Georgia Power’s Green Energy Program. (2010)
  • Worked to transform federal stimulus funding into useful grants for commercial renewable energy and energy efficiency projects, which supported 14 solar projects in Georgia. (2009)
  • Worked with the Georgia Public Service Commission to ensure that Georgia Power’s Green Energy Program and its RNR-Tariff met the needs of the solar community. Increased the solar energy cap on electricity generated by Georgia Power from 500 kW to 2.5 MWs. (2009)
  • Launched the first Southern Solar Summit in Savannah and Atlanta. (2009)
  • More than 100 solar installations statewide participate in annual Solar Tour (2009)
  • Helped create Georgia’s first Clean Energy Property Tax Credit administered by the Georgia Environmental Finance Authority (GEFA). administers the program which allocates $2.5 million annually for clean energy property including energy efficiency as well as wind, biomass and solar. (2008)
