 Katherine Lucey, Founder & CEO, Solar Sister

With an undergraduate degree from the University of Georgia and an MBA from the J. Mack Robinson College of Business at Georgia State University, Ms. Lucey spent 20 years as an investment banker focused on the energy sector. In 2009, she turned her expertise in energy and finance to the millions of people living without access to electricity in sub-Saharan Africa. That year, she created the nonprofit Solar Sister, a peer-based distribution system of women to provide solar lamps and other clean energy products. Solar Sister helps women become entrepreneurs as they bring solar energy to their communities.

   

 Katie Ottenweller, Attorney, Southern Environmental Law Center

Katie Chiles Ottenweller is a staff attorney with the Southern Environmental Law Center, where she heads up their regional Solar Initiative. This initiative was launched to help the Southeast reap the many benefits of solar power, by removing legal and policy barriers to affordable, clean solar energy in Virginia, North and South Carolina, Tennessee, Georgia and Alabama. She heads up a team of attorneys working on clean energy policy throughout the Southeast. Katie is originally from Tallahassee, Florida, and is a graduate of the University of Georgia and Columbia University School of Law. She is licensed to practice law in Pennsylvania and Georgia.

 

Stephanie Benfield, Chief Resilience Officer,  Office of  Sustainabilty for City of Atlanta

Stephanie Stuckey Benfield is Chief Resilience Officer of the Mayor's Office of Sustainability for the City of Atlanta.  She received both an undergraduate and law degree from the University of Georgia.  She graduated cum laude from the University of Georgia School of Law in 1992.  After law school, she served as a public defender and then went into private practice before being elected to the Georgia General Assembly in 1999.  Stephanie served as a State Representative from the Decatur area for 14 years, during which time she was a member of the Judiciary and Natural Resources Committees.  Stephanie’s legal expertise was recognized in 2011 when she was given the Outstanding Lawyer in Public Service Award by the Atlanta Bar Association.  Stephanie serves on the Boards for the Green Chamber of the South, EarthShare of Georgia, and the Olmsted Linear Parks Association.  She is a member of the Institute for Georgia Environmental Leadership Class of 2013.

 

Anne Blair, Program Director, Southern Alliance for Clean Energy

Anne Blair is the Program Director for Southern Alliance for Clean Energy’s (SACE) clean fuels programs and serves as SACE's Georgia state liaison. Since 2003, Anne has been engaged in policy analysis, outreach and research on both state and federal levels, with an emphasis on clean transportation technologies and renewable energy. She is engaged in legislative and regulatory proceedings at the state level on issues related to renewable energy and has testified on transportation issues in numerous regulatory forums throughout the Southeast. She is a member of the Mothers & Others for Clean Air Leadership Board, the Green-E Governance Board, and the EarthShare of Georgia Board of Directors. She serves of as chair of the Avondale-Rockbridge Civic Alliance, co-chair of the Creation Care Team at the Decatur First United Methodist Church and is a member of The Museum School PTO. She is a graduate of the Environmental Leadership Institute. She holds a BA in Biology from Randolph-Macon Woman’s College in Lynchburg, VA and is a Master of Environmental Law & Policy (MELP) candidate at Vermont Law School.

Robin Lanier, Distributed Generation Principal, Georgia Power Company

Robin Lanier is the Distributed Generation Principal within Georgia Power Company's Renewable Development Group, where she is responsible for the oversight of existing distributed generation Power Purchase Agreements, as well as the design and implementation for future renewable distributed generation procurements. During her time in Renewable Development, she also served as a project manager, managing distributed generation, utility scale, and research demonstration projects. Additionally, she served as a Distribution Engineering Supervisor on a developmental rotation.
Robin graduated from the University of Georgia holding a degree in Agricultural Engineering with an emphasis in Structures and Structural Systems. She earned her Engineering In-Training (EIT) license in the state of Georgia and is also a Certified Energy Manger (CEM) through the Association of Energy Engineers (AEE).

Amber Penland, Director of Operations, United Renewable Energy LLC

Amber Penland is the Director of Operations for United Renewable Energy LLC, a multi-state Engineering, Procurement and Construction firm specializing in utility scale solar development and installation. Amber is directly responsible for URE’s professional services, project delivery, development, and solar generating plant operations and maintenance. In this role, Amber leverages 27 years of corporate management experience to further a personal passion for renewable energy and sustainability, while managing a multimillion dollar budget to make URE one of the most profitable solar companies in the Southeast. Her diverse professional career includes Operations and Marketing Management in organic and natural products, serving as a Practitioner and Business Manager within progressive women’s health care and Program Director in the non-profit sector. Amber is a dedicated resource for women in the renewable energy industry, and has worked tirelessly to advocate for renewable energy development in the Southeast.
