Why Solar?

Solar energy is free, abundant and inexhaustible. Further, a wide variety of technologies and design principles can be used to capture this prominent native resource. Georgia averages over 5 hours of sunlight per day, and as a result could generate 24% of its electricity from rooftop solar arrays. Solar energy technologies do not produce any air pollutants or greenhouse gases. Most importantly, solar does not use any WATER. As other forms of energy, both renewable and non-renewable consume massive quantities of water out of our rivers, solar does not use one drop. In fact, the savings in water alone would be more than enough to make solar a less expensive option than coal. In an economic climate where overall job growth is just 2%, solar energy jobs are growing at 26% per year. It's time to ask: Why would we want to keep importing coal in order to export potential solar jobs to other states?
