KEYNOTEBILL NUSSEY, founder of the Freeing Energy Project, and author of the book, “Freeing Energy” to be released in 2019. His mission: accelerate the shift to cleaner, cheaper energy. Prior to Freeing Energy, Bill was a career CEO in SaaS software and digital marketing. His companies have created thousands of jobs and billions in market value. He was a venture capitalist with Greylock, IBM’s VP Corporate Strategy; has an MBA from Harvard Business School and an Electrical Engineering degree from North Carolina State University.

(Excerpt from Freeing Energy): "In the same way personal computers upended the legacy mainframe computing world and mobile phones disrupted the landline telephone business, “local energy” will revolutionize the way we produce and consume electricity. By freeing energy from centralized fossil fuel power plants and the one-size-fits-all grid, entrepreneurs and innovators can re-invent the electricity business from the outside-in. Local energy also offers the bi-partisan benefits of local jobs, healthier communities and greater independence from large government bureaucracies."

KEYNOTE:  Anya Schoolman is the Executive Director of Solar United Neighbors (SUN). SUN began in Washington, D.C. when Anya’s son and a friend inquired about going solar.  Anya encouraged them to get the neighborhood involved to save costs.  Not only did 50 neighbors agree to go solar together, this effort then spread across Washington D.C.  SUN now helps communities across the country develop locally-owned renewable energy projects and fight for policies that support clean, local energy -- especially rooftop solar. Solar United Neighbors, a 501c3, has a database of 60,000 and manages state-based programs in nine states.  This fall, Solar United Neighbors is partnering with the American Solar Energy Society for the "2018 National Solar Tour!"  The National Solar Tour is the largest grassroots solar, renewable energy, and sustainable living event in the nation. The Tour takes place the weekend of October 6 and 7.

WEATHER CHANNEL DOCUMENTARYKilling Clean is a documentary about Ohio that examines the forces pushing back on renewable energy progress. Opponents of solar and other renewable resources have mobilized across the country to undermine increasing adoption and deployment of renewable energy. “Killing Clean” demonstrates how they zeroed in on Ohio as an early win for their effort to fight clean energy policy at the state level. Ultimately, the initiative failed, in part because renewable energy advocates reminded Ohio’s leaders about the jobs and investment their commitment to renewable energy has produced. Producer Marisa Venegas, Reporter Brad Wieners and Greenlink Founder Matt Cox will discuss the Ohio face-off.
