Consumer Protection:

GA Solar supports Integrity in Solar Sales by:

  1. Informing consumers through education and outreach;

  2. Advocating for sensible policies to support honest, hardworking solar companies while preventing dishonest sales practices that hurt consumers and the broader solar industry.

 

 

Fair compensation for energy delivered directly to the distribution grid:

  • Distributed solar delivers energy directly to the distribution grid, avoiding line losses and easing congestion at times of peak energy demand.
  • Distributed solar can be interconnected more quickly and located closer to load than utility scale solar, supplying badly needed energy to serve Georgia’s growing economy.
  • When solar customers are undercompensated for excess energy, fewer solar systems are built, and they are undersized to minimize exporting energy.
Bottom line: Solar customers are currently underpaid for the value they provide, and the RNR Tariff should better reflect this value.

 

 

Virtual Power Plants:

  • “Virtual Power Plant" refers to an aggregation of behind-the-meter resources (such as solar, batteries, thermostats, & heat pumps) programmed to respond as a single flexible resource, providing capacity value & putting downward pressure on rates.

  • We should be optimizing assets that are already built and/or that can be deployed quickly to meet Georgia's growing energy demand through a Virtual Power Plant Program.
